An update from the Global Atlantic Fellows Advisory Board (GFAB)

Memorandum: GFAB meeting, Washington, D.C.,
Greetings all! The Global Fellow Advisory Board (GFAB) [pictured] met in Washington, DC, March 5-8 and was hosted by Atlantic Fellows for Health Equity U.S. + Global, based at George Washington University, as one of our three in-person gatherings each year. We have made a lot of progress since we last saw many of you in Thailand, including updating our name from GASFAF to GFAB. As the first group of Fellows on this advisory board, it has been our honor to help put structures in place to better connect our Atlantic Fellows community, including:
Developing an action framework in December 2022, which focused on creating committees and setting strategic goals for the remainder of the term, based on our terms of reference. That framework was given to the Atlantic Institute leadership for review to get feedback and approval. Based on this framework, GFAB has planned its activities for the remainder of the term.
We have formed three committees:
- The Communications Committee
- The Global Atlantic Fellows' Transition Committee
- The Chair Committee.
The Communications Committee
It works on creating presentations and sharing information on GFAB's role and representation for the Atlantic Fellows community.
The Global Atlantic Fellows' Transition Committee
It works on creating sessions to welcome our newly graduated Fellows into our community in July and supports the Atlantic Institute's creation of guidelines on values-based norms.
The Chair Committee
The Chair Committee serves as the bridge between GFAB and the Atlantic Institute Governing Board (AIGB) to ensure Fellow representation at the AIGB level. The committee is responsible for assisting with the logistics and functioning of GFAB and working closely with the executive director of the Atlantic Institute and Senior Fellow lead.
Other news
- We have reviewed the selection criteria and the process of bringing in new members in March 2024. There are multiple options for how to approach this process and the board will continue to consult before making a decision.
- Also were involved in the planning of contributions at the Global Atlantic Fellows Annual Convening in July.
- Assisted in the naming of rooms and sourcing artworks, in conjunction with their fellowship cohorts, for the Norham Gardens property purchased by the Atlantic Institute in Oxford.
- Provided input for the Atlantic Institute strategic plan as we collectively shape the direction of our community.
- Developed a GFAB playbook to capture our thinking and actions during our team on GFAB that we will pass down to future advisory board members, so it can be added to over time.
