Inspiring Billionaire Philanthropy: Chuck Feeney featured in Irish Times

Published on March 12, 2026

To mark the release of the second edition of Conor O’Clery’s biography, "The Billionaire Who Wasn’t," The Irish Times has run an extensive feature on Chuck Feeney’s impact in Ireland and across the globe.  The article not only notes the $1.93 billion given to education, health and peacemaking causes in Ireland, but also the global nature of Feeney’s philanthropy in pursuit of equity. This includes the "big bet" taken by Atlantic Philanthropies in setting up the Atlantic Fellows programs and the Atlantic Institute.

Feeney’s authentic empathy for others is situated in stark contrast to the excess preferred by many other billionaires, noting the closure of the Donald J. Trump Foundation in 2018 following allegations of irregularities.  The article goes on to credit Feeney’s "giving while living" philosophy as the inspiration behind other billionaires’ commitments to significant philanthropy, including Bill Gates and Laurene Powell Jobs.
